Record increases in foreign currency in August in 2018 adversely affected construction sector as well. Building and construction materials based on foreign currency also increased the costs. According to the latest data announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute, construction material index increased at the rate of 29,2 percent and workmanship index at the rate of 17,4 percent in 2018 compared to the rates in the previous year. On the other hand, the fact that Alanya uses the most expensive concrete in the country leaves the sector representatives in a difficult situation. Talking on Dim TV about the issue, owner of ADASA Building Inspection company and Construction Engineer Aycan Fenercioğlu stated that certain developments caused some to profiteer. Stating that increases in the costs caused some people to profiteer, Fenercioğlu pointed out that reflection of such increases in the costs on the construction materials exceeded 30 percent and therefore, contractors are adversely affected by such increases. Basic reason for increase in concrete prices in Alanya is monopolism.
